It's that time of the year when we make preparations to flock to the venue (Bentota this year) for the Annual Get-together of the Colombo Medical School Alumni Association (CoMSAA) to be held on 8th and 9th September 2018 (please see flyer below and details of making reservations).

Off to the US

Mangala and I will be leaving for the US this evening. That doesn't mean that the blog will come to a standstill. Please keep sending in your contributions and from wherever I am, I will try to post them as I usually do. We will be in California from 16 to 20 May and it is only on those few days that I am not sure whether I will have access to a computer. Rest of the time, we will be with our daughter in Virginia Beach, VA where it will be business as usual. We'll be back on June 1st.

Effecting improvements to our batch blog

With the sole intention of improving our blog, some changes have been made. "Latest News" (see horizontal column at the top) which hitherto carried some items pertaining to the 2017 Batch Reunion has been completely revamped and updated. It now carries the latest revised list of members of the batch who have passed away. 2017 Reunion news have been moved to "Archive" which is also new. Thus, we now have a home page followed by Latest News, Useful Links and Archive.

As always, Mahendra Gonsalkorale (Speedy to me and to most of us) has helped me in making these changes. I acknowledge his input and thank him immensely for helping me run this blog.

  7. Lucky and Organising committee- Any chance of getting a Keyboard and amplifier with microphones into one of the rooms during our stay do that we can have impromptu singing sessions? Yours truly will be very happy to provide the music.

  8. Dear Colleagues,

The Organising Committee (Swyrie, Pram, Sriani and myself) met on 22 November and took some important decisions.

    1. The dates (3,4 and 5 March, 2017) remain unchanged.

    2. There had been many requests for a change in the venue that was decided on earlier (Cinnamon Lodge, Habarana) mainly due to the distance from Colombo.
We have now decided to have the upcoming Batch Reunion at the Jetwing Blue, Negombo.

Hotel terms and other details are as follows:

Room charges - SLR 26,000/- nett per double room (twin sharing basis)
    Single room: Rs 22,250/-
    Triple room: Rs 33,000/-
All above on Full Board basis. We plan to leave on Friday and return on Sunday after breakfast. Hotel stay will be for only two nights. Time of departure from Colombo will be notified later.

Occupants will have to settle their room bills direct to the hotel at the time of check out.

Extra payment: Members of the batch will have to make an extra payment of SLR 25,000/- per room (This will cover transport to hotel in Negombo, entertainment including band, wines, corkage, beer, soft drinks, Rs 2500 per head as cover charge for dinner dance on Saturday etc for member and spouse). Any guests accompanying the member and spouse will have to make the extra payment of Rs 25,000/- separately (per each additional room). Widows and widowers of members of the batch who will be attending will be considered as members of the batch.

Very Important: We are unable to go ahead with arrangements unless we know the exact number attending. Therefore, we kindly request you to let us know before 5 December 2016 (the very latest) whether you will be attending.

The extra payment of Rs 25,000/- can be paid any time before 3 March 2017 to Pram. It is advisable that you arrange with someone living in Sri Lanka to advance the amount in SL currency and for you to settle that with the person concerned. It will be far more convenient and cheaper than trying to send across foreign currency through a bank to SL from any part of the world.

The above information covers the bare essentials to enable you to take a decision. It is applicable to those domiciled abroad as well as local residents.

Further updates will be mailed only to those confirming participation by 5 December 2016.

    Regards,

    Lucky
